Cyclist.ink is a personal website. It reflects the experiences of a cyclist, one who worries about the mind/body problem in Portland, Oregon.

Posts labeled “The Outspokin’ Cyclist” refer to a newspaper column I used to write, between 2004 and 2009, for The Herald Sun of Durham, North Carolina. At the time, it was one of the only regular bicycling columns in a mainstream newspaper in the United States, and it helped to normalize cycling for Durham metro subscribers. Most of those columns were also published at nicomachus.net, and many—along with a few other essays—have been anthologized in the book, The Outspokin’ Cyclist (2011, Avenida Books). The event announcements, many of the links, and even many of the hotlinked photos are out of date, but the advice for new cyclists is evergreen. I archive the columns here as a record of how a local newspaper can support the cycling community.
